Skiing On Fairly Empty Slopes On New Year's Day (January 1, 2008)

Telluride Skiing
Jay talked me into riding up lifts 10 and 11 to an awesome beginner area called Ute Park. We practically had the whole place to ourselves.

The lift had stopped momentarily right here and I dropped my glove while I was taking pictures. Luckily we were able to ski down to get it.

Yep, that's me happily skiing.

The scary part of going up to Ute Park is that you have to ski double greens to get back down. :(

I was doing great on Double Cabins when this girl came crashing into me. I was turning to the right and saw her speeding along out of the corner of my eye. I had the right of way, obviously, and she seemed to know what she was doing so I assumed she would go a little bit right to get around me. Nope! I heard her scream and I had just enough time to think, "Aw crap." She knocked me down and slid down aways more. We were both okay, though. I was pretty shaken up and had a hard time after that. :(

Above is the view we had on Double Cabins, facing west.

I even saw an airplane going in to land at the airport right here. We were way above it!

Despite the crash and a fall that I had (and a big new bruise on my leg under a bad one healing from 2 weeks ago), I did have a great time. I will be glad when I can get up there with my instructor again. Jay helped me as much as he could, but he's no instructor. ;)
